Comfy cushions for lounge lizards

Willem - the cushion cover
New in our store

Willem – the cushion cover is handsome and soft, and has been crafted from an upcycled windmill sailcloth from De Salamander wood sawing mill in Leidschendam, just north of The Hague.

Ideal for bringing a local and authentic heritage note that still has a contemporary vibe to your home.

Only 28 cushions have been made from the single sailcloth, and each one is unique as a result of the varying weather patterning on the canvas during its earlier working life.

Available in 2 sizes (40 x 40 cm & 30 x 50cm), and finished either with or without 4 jaunty tassels in soft twine.

We have selected the fabric so that one side is slightly lighter in tone than the other, to give you even more options.

By upcycling this windmill sailcloth, we have saved another piece of otherwise gorgeous textile from unnecessarily going into landfill.

Windmill De Salamander

This mighty sawmill has a turbulent history. Fire, decay, and resurrection—the Salamander has gone through it all.

Wereldwijven Atelier, Dordrecht

The soft cloth has been hand made into beautiful and original cushions by the team at Wereldwijven Ateliers from Dordrecht in South Holland.

We named this item after the very clever Willem Bogaerts, the miller at windmill De Salamander, who knows everything there is to know about keeping this mighty windmill sawing away.
